All about me
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Gareth Dylan, a musician, producer and engineer, currently based on the lovely island of Guernsey. Music is all I’ve ever wanted or truly worked for. I have a degree in Popular Music: Production and Performance from the University of Winchester, and am hoping to have a career as a music producer, recording and mixing engineer.
My music journey didn’t really start until I was 16 and got a bass for my birthday. For a couple of years, the only experience I had was playing in worship bands. My music recording journey started when I was 18 and bought my first acoustic guitar. I would stand in my kitchen and record awful covers and post them on YouTube. This initially taught me some simple recording techniques, and then also the basics of getting a good mix. Over the years, I kept working hard and improving on all aspects of what I was recording, and applied to university to study music at the end of 2019. Luckily I had deferred my application to start in 2021, managing to avoid the worst of the pandemic.
In my time at university I relearnt everything, pretty much from scratch. I fell in love with everything to do with being in the studio, which is why I hope to one day own and run my own. Over the three years I spent at uni, I played in groups from acoustic duos to heavy rock bands, and recorded everything from soft pop, to electronic and synths, to metal. For my final project I produced and mixed a series of EPs, spending a majority of my final year in the uni’s studios or my bedroom studio.
Since graduation, I have taught myself mastering, recorded instrument covers for social media, and mixed for clients on Fiverr. I now want to take my music making journey into my own hands, which is why I’ve made this website. If you want to work together, please check out the services I offer, or get in touch to get the ball rolling. If you want to follow the journey, check out the producer diaries series and follow me on instagram.

What I’m doing now
My main goal right now is to simply get my foot in the door. The opportunities to record bands and produce records on this island are very few and far between, so I’m focusing on remote/online work currently. I’m hoping to grow my portfolio and grow my client base, so that when I move back to the UK I already have the ball rolling. I am aiming on becoming a full time producer, one day owning and running my own studio, but in the meantime I will be hoping to prove my strengths as a mixing and mastering engineer.
I’m also heavily focused on my youtube series, producer diaries. It is basically impossible to make a living in the modern music industry without having a presence on social media, so I’m looking at making a series that directly supports the work I’m doing. Producer diaries is a mostly weekly vlog series, tracking my journey towards becoming a full time music producer, and the work that it takes to get there.
